How To Train An American Staffordshire Terrier
American Staffordshire Terriers, or Amstaffs as they are sometimes called, are intelligent, reliable and very loyal dogs. They make great family pets and are excellent with children. However, they can be strong-willed and stubborn at times, so it is important to train them properly. Here are some tips on how to train an American Staffordshire Terrier.
The first thing you need to do when training an American Staffordshire Terrier is to establish yourself as the alpha dog. This means that you need to be the one in charge and that you should be the one giving the commands. Once your dog understands that you are the leader, he will be more likely to follow your commands.
It is also important to be consistent when training an American Staffordshire Terrier. This means that you should always use the same commands and rewards for good behavior. If you are inconsistent, your dog will quickly become confused and will not respond to your commands as well.
Another important tip for training an American Staffordshire Terrier is to use positive reinforcement. This means rewarding your dog for good behavior and ignoring or punishing him for bad behavior. For example, if your dog sits when you ask him to, give him a treat. On the other hand, if he jumps on you or barks excessively, do not give him any attention.
Finally, be patient when training an American Staffordshire Terrier. Like all dogs, they need time to learn and they will not always respond immediately to your commands. If you are patient and consistent, however, you will eventually see results.
Things to Avoid When Training A Staffordshire Terrier
When it comes to training your Staffordshire Terrier, there are a few things you’ll want to avoid if you want your pup to stay safe and happy. Here are four things to keep in mind:
1. Avoid physical punishment. This includes any form of hitting, beating, or otherwise causing physical pain to your dog. Not only is this cruel, it’s also ineffective and can actually make your dog’s behavior problems worse.
2. Don’t use food as a reward. While treats can be a great way to motivate your dog during training, using food as the only reward can lead to obesity and other health problems. Instead, focus on offering praise and affection as rewards for good behavior.
3. Don’t shout or scream at your dog. This will only scare and confuse them, and is more likely to make them shut down or become aggressive than it is to make them behave the way you want.
4. Avoid using a choke chain or prong collar. These types of collars can injure your dog’s neck and throat, and can cause serious behavioral problems. Stick to using a regular flat-buckle collar during training, and save the choke chain or prong collar for emergencies only.

Things to Avoid When Training A Pitbull
There are a lot of myths and misconceptions about pit bulls, which can make training them seem more daunting than it actually is. However, by avoiding some common mistakes, you can set your pit bull up for success.
One mistake to avoid is using punitive methods of discipline, such as hitting or yelling. This will only serve to scare and confuse your dog, and is likely to make them more aggressive in the long run. Instead, focus on positive reinforcement, such as rewards and praise, to shape your dog’s behavior.
Another mistake is failing to socialize your pit bull. It’s important to expose them to a variety of people and other animals early on so that they learn to be comfortable around others. Without socialization, your pit bull may become anxious or aggressive in new situations.
Finally, don’t forget to give your pit bull plenty of exercise. This breed is known for being high energy, so they need an outlet for all that energy. A tired dog is a good dog, so make sure to give your pit bull plenty of opportunities to run and play.

Several things that are incorrect. Author states the APBT has a stronger bite than the Staff, but lists the Staff as having 328psi, and the APBT as 235psi. Author the APBT ws bred in the USA. The original APBT came from England, and Ireland in the 1800s. Truth be known the APBT, and Staffordshire Bull Terrier are the same breed, bred to different standards. Just like an American Staffordshire came from pure Colby Pitbull bloodlines, but have been bred more for companionship, and different stature. Though they can both overlap. Typically the ADBA likes an APBT conformation to be high stationed. As tall, and it is long. But there are plenty of them that dont conform to this standard. But this does not tell the temperment, or gameness of the APBT which is the main thing for a pitbull. Everything else is secondary. Ive seen plenty of SBT that are extremely animal aggressive. There are many old stone carvings in Rome, that depict dogs that look exactly like a modern day APBT. Even stone carvings in the Pyramids depict dogs looking exactly like pitbulls used for war. The romans said they took a breed of dog back to Rome from England, and it defeated every known breed of dog they had. Which their main dog that fought in the arena back then was the Neopolitan mastiff.
